چکیده
The pathogenesis of arterial stenosis or occlusion may be secondary to a wide spectrum of etiologic factors including atherosclerosis, thrombosis, embolic events of various etiology, fibromuscular dysplasia, vasculitidies, dissection, trauma, external compression, and vasospastic syndromes. Atherosclerosis is by far the most common cause of arterial stenosis. Atheromatic plaques have been identified as early as the first two decades of life, but usually become hemodynamically significant after the age of 50. They can develop in most of the arteries in the body, and are most commonly located in the area of arterial bifurcations. A hemodynamically significant arterial stenosis reduces blood flow in the capillary bed distal to it. The extent of this interference is related to the severity of the stenosis and is determined by strict hemodynamic principles. Tissue perfusion distal to an arterial stenosis can be maintained by development of a network of collateral vessels around the stenosis,

Prevalence of Peripheral Arterial Disease in Diabetic Patients
Objective: Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is a state characterized by atherosclerotic occlusive disease of lower extremities. Diabetes is the main risk factor for PAD. Material and Methods: To assess the prevalence of PAD, a cross sectional study was performed on 352 diabetic patients who referred to Yazd diabetes research center from 2007 to 2010. Vascular assessment was done by measuring ...
متن کاملSurgical infrainguinal revascularization for peripheral arterial disease: factors affecting patency rate
Background: Peripheral arterial disease is a source of morbidity and mortality. Surgical vascular reconstruction is a treatment option but probability of failure and complications are important concerns. In this study, we evaluated outcome of surgical infrainguinal reconstruction and factors affecting graft patency for a period of one year. Methods: In this cohort study, 85 consecutive patie...

متن کاملDiagnosis, Prognosis and Treatment of Peripheral Vascular Disease in Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcer: Adopted IWGDF Guidance
Introduction: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is common in diabetic patients, and about half of the patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) have concomitant peripheral arterial disease (PAD). The purpose of this study was to select an appropriate and comprehensive clinical guide in the management of DFU. The part of the practical guide that pertains to this is based on three systematic revie...
متن کاملEvaluation of Asymptomatic Peripheral Arterial Disease by Ankle- Brachial Index in Patients with Concomitant Coronary Arterial Disease
BACKGROUND Peripheral arterial disease is associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes. As such, it is found that screening for peripheral arterial disease (PAD) improves risk assessment. Thus, intensive risk factor modification and medical treatment in these patients are necessary. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of asymptomatic peripheral arterial dis...
